VEROSOL FACTS AND FIGURES

All Verosol sun shading products, pleated blinds, verticals, roller blinds, and curtains, are made with fabrics that have a highly reflective layer of aluminum on the window facing side. This aluminum layer gives the fabrics their excellent sun shading and insulating properties, and makes Verosol products specifically suitable for application in the working environment. Here they contribute to a better interior climate, and good lighting conditions.

The independent institute for scientific research TNO in Delft, has tested the Verosol materials in order to establish their sun shading characteristics. The figures for all Verosol fabrics, have been measured by TNO according to EN410 and ISO 9050, and copies of the relevant TNO reports can be made available upon request. Calculations of the figures for Verosol materials in combination with various types of glazing have been made with the WIS software, and are also based upon EN410/ISO 9050 standards.

Fact 1:
Verosol metallized fabrics reflect a large portion of incoming sunlight.

Solar reflection is the percentage of the total solar radiation that is reflected by the metallized side of Verosol material.
Light reflection is the percentage of visible light (wavelength between 400 - 700 nm) that is reflected by the metallized side of Verosol material.

Fact 2:
Verosol metallized fabrics have low light transmission values, which largely determines their contribution to lighting circumstances in the working environment. Depending on the orientation of the facade, light transmission values between 4 and 20% are recommended for computer workstations, in order to achieve the desirable light intensity level of 500 - 1500 Lux on the computer workstation. Such values can be achieved using the appropriate Verosol fabric for the specific circumstances.

Solar transmission is the percentage of the total solar radiation that is transmitted into a room through Verosol material.
Light transmission is the percentage of visible light (wavelength 400 - 700 nm) that is transmitted into a room through the Verosol material.

Fact 3:
Verosol products, as part of a total window system, diminish the fraction of the total solar energy that is transmitted through such window system, thus contributing to thermal comfort.

Solar Factor (SF) is the ratio between the solar energy that is transmitted and emitted into the interior, and the total incident solar energy.

Fact 4:
Verosol products diminish the amount of energy(warmth) that is lost through the window as a result of a temperature difference between interior and exterior, when the outside temperature is lower (winter circumstances mostly). In other words Verosol has insulating properties.

The U-value is the indicator for the heat transfer through a window system (incl. Verosol) caused by a temperature difference between the interior and the exterior temperature. The calculation is based upon a temperature difference of 15 degrees Centigrade, and an inside temperature of 20 degrees centigrade, in a winter solution.

The U-value for standard, clear-float single glass is 5,9 W/(m2)K and for clear-float double glass the U-value is 2.9 W/(m2)K.

Fact 5:
The metallization of Verosol products gives them not only excellent sun shading properties, it also enables the use transparent and semi transparent fabrics that allow a good visual contact to the world outside.

The part of the total light transmission that determines whether or not a fabric offers a view through, is the specular transmission. Logically, in the more transparent types of fabric, this part is more important. The view offered by Verosol materials is illustrated by the photos on this page.

Specular transmission is the fraction of visible light that is transmitted through the fabric without being re-directed. The determines the quality of the view through that is offered by the fabric.
